Top Chef Just Desserts – S2 – Power Ranking

Posted on September 25, 2011 by Norie

Alright, I’ve been quite slow with the Top Chef Just Desserts power ranking. I confess. I thought I had a magical skill, and then it seemed to slip through my fingers. I’ve been a bit reticent to go picking winners lately. Since this show is definitely getting more competitive and the weak have been separated from the strong, I will try to give it a shot.

8. Carlos Enriquez

With the last episode, he seems like he’s stuck in a rut.

7. Rebecca Mason

Yes, she’s from Houston, and that’s wonderful. If she had a store, I would totally go. I just feel that she’s literally too fragile for the competition. Her body and spirit keeps breaking.

6. Megan Ketover

She hasn’t won a competition. In other words, she’s skating by.

5. Orlando Santos

He has a massive ego, but like most contestants with ego issues, he rarely delivers.

4. Sally Camacho

I don’t see her winning, but she’s going to make it close to the end.

3. Matthew Peterson

He started strong and seems to be going through what might be a hiccup. If he can get past it, he’ll make it till the end.

2. Katzie Guy-Hamilton

She just keeps getting better.

1. Chris Hanmer

He also didn’t perform well in the last competition, but he has been a solid contender throughout. Good luck Chris!!

Top Chef – Power Ranking

Posted on June 16, 2010 by Norie

This year Top Chef is in D.C. After a good season of Top Chef Masters, I’m ready to watch a few competent and many incompetent chefs fight to be Top Chef. Enough with the writing, let’s rank.

On a side note, people who make up the labels on Top Chef, please be aware that Texas and Atlanta are both yes in the South, but that doesn’t mean that they are the same cultural or food-wise. You identify where the other chefs are from regionally and which regional style they are expressing through their dish. If you identify which state a person was influenced by, then do that for everyone. Don’t generalize about the South or the Rockies. Thank you!

16. Jacqueline Lombard

The self-taught caterer doesn’t have a chance. People who are self-taught don’t win Top Chef.

15. Stephen Hopcraft

He doesn’t seem to have basic technique. Bye Bye Stephen!

14. Lynne Gigliotti

OK! Now, I really don’t know anything about this woman except that she’s an instructor and did fine at brunoise-ing. Other than….I have nothing.

13. Amanda Baumgarten

She cut her own palm and admitted that she is not as far along as the others. I don’t think she has a chance. She’s pretty though.

12. Tracey Bloom

I don’t like her. Easy as that!

11. Arnold Myint

He’s cute, but I don’t think he has the skills.

10. Tiffany Derry

I  hope she does well, but I don’t have enough info to rank her higher.

9. Tamesha Warren

She peels a good potato, but I don’t know what else she has to offer yet.

8. Timothy Dean

He could be good, but then he good not. He’s a wild card at this point.

7. Ed Cotton

Not too clear about this one.

6. Andrea Curto-Randazzo

She cooked well and got a compliment. Thus, she’s ranked higher.

5. Kelly Liken

I hope she can compete with the men, because they are a great group this year.

4. Kevin Sbraga

He’s a good chef, but I don’t think he’s good enough to win.

3. Kenny Gilbert

Any of the top 3 could take home the prize. He did well, and he’s a big tough guy. For some reason, that doesn’t turn me off this time.

2. Alex Reznick

Everyone loves a deconstructionist.

1. Angelo Sosa

This guy is really talented. This show will just be a steady weekly elimination until the top 5 makes it interesting. I expect Angelo will be one of the final 2.

I have to say that I was sad that John was eliminated first. I thought those dreads showed some promise.
