If Reality TV and Lists had a love child…

My Last Reality Post

Posted on September 27, 2011 by Norie

I’ve had a realization, perhaps sparked by the insensitivities of Patti Stanger. I’m tired of spending time with reality shows and the people on them.

For almost 2 years, I have obsessively watched TV. Stretching my DVR to its limits all in a quest to watch it all, know it all, report it all. While this has been an amazing experience, I find that the thrill is gone. It’s become a chore. I don’t get paid to do this, so in essence, I toil for the love it and to strive to get more hits. I feel that I’ve reached some amazing goals and that in no way has this been a time waster. I’m just ready to move on and do other things that I enjoy.

I won’t completely give up blogging, by the way. Back in the summer of 2010, I had a blog for a month called “The News Scares Me” and have already restarted it on Tumblr. Basically, it pokes fun at crazy headlines and fear-mongering tactics used by the local media. This will be a much smaller blog and one that won’t consume 3 or more hours of my day.

Again, thank you everyone for reading. It’s been a pleasure. I’ve loved the comments, even when they were mean. Make sure to check out the new blog – The News Scares Me.

First time commenter, here. I first found your blog this summer and added you to my RSS feed. I want to thank you for the fun I had reading your reality blogs and let you know that I totally understand your reasons for letting go of the reality genre.
One of the reasons I started looking for blogs to follow was I was tired of feeling rather dirty after watching Housewives lower themselves, fight, scream, lie and become generally pathetic. That and I could feel my blood pressure rise as a result of watching..I was getting agitated and would find myself yelling at the TV. I haven’t watched an episode of any HW shows since the end of RHoBH, season 1. Patty Stanger’s MM? I never watched after her first season. She’s hateful in so many ways. I could no longer watch the majority of Bravo programming and relied on blogs to follow them.. I couldn’t detox without a placebo :=)
So, thanks again for your time and considerable effort. I can see what sent you over the edge.
I did subscribe to your News blog and will continue to follow you there. I look forward to reading it and hope I get some laughs from it too.
Best of luck!! You’ll be fine, probably a lot less tense. No one needs the aggravation we were subjecting ourselves too. :-)

I’ve loved reading your blogs for the past couple of months. Sad to see you go but I understand why you want to move on. Just curious- Will you stay watching any of the reality shows you’ve been commenting on? My favorites are Toddlers & Tiaras and Dance Moms :)

Thanks for your kind words. I’ve kept watching Project Runway, Top Chef, and the Housewives.

    Dear Norie,

I just found out about your blog today through a google search. I watch quite a bit of Bravo programming, currently Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and New Jersey. I like the shows as there’s something to laugh about or feel compassionate for someone :)

The posts you were creating are certainly exhausting and I congratulate you for working tirelessly for 2 years on it.

I used to blog almost daily but stopped quite a bit in April 2011 as I just had other priorities and started enjoying the outside world a bit more lol.

Maybe one day you’ll come back to this blog, but take a well-deserved break!! I think you over-worked yourself.. especially 3 or more hours a day.. kudos to you!! :)

I bookmarked both on delicious.com and wish you the best!

    Thank you!!!
